DANCE HISTORY

I first took dance history as a dance major at UNLV. I withdrew from the course to dance professionally on tour that semester. While studying music at DSU I was choreographing for St. George Dance Company and also taking dance pedagogy, concurrently while teaching dance. I designed a lesson plan for dance based on the Survey of Jazz music class. The lesson incorporated modern themes of movement tied into the culture of the Jim Crow era. 

 

I also incorporated music history into my lessons on classical ballet, so students could understand the impact of Russian politics and how composers drew from their history and folk tunes. I emphasized the importance of folk dance in the ballet's and how folk music and dance integrated Russian nationalism into the arts of that time as a means of revolting against the government.

 

I include ballet history and modern dance history in my current curriculum with the following Prezi being incorporated into my current curriculum.
