Form & Analysis Music 3540 (3)

BA in Music DSU (emphasis vocal performance)

I use my experience in music to expand upon my choreographic process. My music and ear training has helped me understand A B form which makes it easier to set phrasing and make technique combinations square to the counts.

My musical background has been helpful in allowing students to let go of counting and listen to musical phrasing. I regularly sing to accompany my students and help them understand the musicality I am wanting them to achieve.

I also use drums regularly in my younger classes. This is an effective way to move quickly through class without having to depend on recorded music. I change the rhythms quickly and the intensities to emphasize the quality of movement and or the skill I want them to master.

I have also taught choreography to poetry, using the voice as a rhythmic instrument to help students create, dance phrases or statements.
